Hello crafty friends!
Today, I’d like to share an easy and CHEAP decorative item, made with a wooden artist’s pallette and the super smooth Gloss craft vinyl from Tape Technologies. This vinyl is top quality, and cuts like a dream. There are many beautiful colours avaliable:
This project was inspired by the chance discovery of a plain wooden artist’s pallette in a store local to me. I spotted it in a small basket on an end cap, and was pleasantly surprised by the price: $1.39! I immediately thought it would be perfect as a surface to make an art piece for the wall.
Now, as the pallette is raw wood, the surface had to be sealed with a glossy finish medium, in order for the vinyl to stick down easily. For this, I used Mod Podge Furniture Gloss to cover the entire front surface of the pallette.
Next, I decided that “Art is life” would be a great phrase to use on my arty decoration piece. I did some searching on Pinterest (of course!), and found a great post with some free script fonts. I chose the ‘Lauren’ font for this project, as it has that in-style look. I used my Silhouette Studio design software and Silhouette Cameo to create the phrase and cut it from the black gloss vinyl. Applying the phrase to the wood is a piece of cake with the Tape Technologies Application Tape.
To show off all the great colours I have of the gloss vinyl, I decided that shapes that look like paint splats would be fun around the edge of the pallette. Here is the link to the image I chose: Paint splats. I cut a ‘splat’ from each colour, and applied them around the edge of the pallette.
I’m really happy with how this turned out, and I think it will look great on the wall of my studio. It could also make a great gift for an artistic friend. And at only $1.39 for the pallette, you certainly cannot beat the price!
Thanks so much for reading!
Carry on crafting 🙂
