Creativation Workshops – Part 2

Hello crafty friends!

Today I wanted to share another instalment of my recent trip to the 2017 Creativation show in Phoenix.  I had the chance to attend some awesome workshops from some of the craft industry’s leading manufacturers.

First of all, a home décor demonstration from DecoArt and the wonderful Tracy Moreau.  We used Americana Chalky Finish paint and stencils to create a design onto a canvas tote bag.

Tracy showed us how to create a subtle ombré finish, which gave the piece so much more interest than a single colour.  I was stunned at how easy it was, and how professional it looked afterwards.  As usual, DecoArt were extremely generous by providing many product samples to take away with us after the workshop was over.

The next workshop I attended was a mixed media canvas, again sponsored by DecoArt, and featuring two amazing designers. Andy Skinner and Tracy Weinzapfel make a great team with their contrasting design styles, that still manage to complement each other. (I have to say, these guys are a riot – if the craft thing doesn’t work out, they have a great future in comedy!)

The workshop introduced techniques to layer different products onto our canvas, to produce a beautiful result. We used the DecoArt Media line and several different stencil designs to finish our masterpieces. I think it’s hard to believe that we once had a blank canvas in front of us.

The Media line from DecoArt is so nice to use – the colours are vibrant, modern and go a LONG way. You think “huh?” when you see the small bottle size, but only a small drop is needed to get great effects on your art. I particularly like the new modelling paste, which dries well and is more flexible than the other brands I have tried.
