Hello my crafty followers, and Happy New Year! As we welcome in the brand new (and pretty darn cold) year of 2018, the question everyone is asking is “how will you remember this year?”
If you’re like me, the years seem to be flying past very quickly now – it seems like only yesterday that we were ringing in the year 2000. So many years, and so many memories. How is it possible to remember all those fun times?
For this month’s Tape Technologies project, I decided that a Memory Jar would be a great way to write down and keep all the fun things that happen during the year. Add a note every day, or even just when something nice happens. Then, at the end of the year open up the jar and read out some of the memories. You could even just have a delve into the jar anytime you’re feeling low – just to remind yourself that it’s not all bad.
First, you need a large glass jar with a lid. I picked up my jar in a store called Kitchen Stuff Plus for about $10, but of course there are many places to buy these, including your local craft, thrift or dollar store.
To add the lettering, I used the stunning new Ultra-FX vinyl from StyleTech Craft, in purple. Check out all the colours and effects of this vinyl on the website here. It has glittery flecks in it that really catch the eye. Using my Silhouette Cameo and the Designer Edition software, I cut the words “A Year of Memories 2018” from the vinyl and applied it to the jar.
Now for the little notes! I thought it would be a good idea to have some notepaper handy with the jar, so that there’s no reason to forget to write them. I created a printable sheet of notes for you to download for free – just open on your computer using Adobe Reader, and print. You can print as many sheets as you need, and cut them into the right size.

To hold the notes, I just folded a simple pocket from purple cardstock, and decorated with some paper flowers and rhinestones.
I then adhered the pocket to the side of the jar, using some strong tape runner.
And there you have it! A fun easy project to keep all your precious memories for an entire year. What will you keep in your memory jar?
Thank you so much for visiting my page, and have a wonderful New Year!!

I love the side pocket and wonder if you could get a small pen or pencil in there too?
